Calcineurin target CrzA regulates conidial germination, hyphal growth, and pathogenesis of Aspergillus fumigatus.
The calcineurin pathway is a critical signal transduction pathway in fungi that mediates growth, morphology, stress responses, and pathogenicity. The importance of the calcineurin pathway in fungal physiology creates an opportunity for the development of new antifungal therapies that target this critical signaling pathway. In this study, we examined the role of the zinc finger transcription fac...
متن کاملA mitogen-activated protein kinase that senses nitrogen regulates conidial germination and growth in Aspergillus fumigatus.
We show that the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway that responds to osmotic stress in Aspergillus fumigatus is also involved in nutritional sensing. This MAP kinase regulates conidial germination in response to the nitrogen source and is activated upon starvation for either carbon or nitrogen during vegetative growth.
متن کاملCalcineurin Orchestrates Hyphal Growth, Septation, Drug Resistance and Pathogenesis of Aspergillus fumigatus: Where Do We Go from Here?
Studies on fungal pathogens belonging to the ascomycota phylum are critical given the ubiquity and frequency with which these fungi cause infections in humans. Among these species, Aspergillus fumigatus causes invasive aspergillosis, a leading cause of death in immunocompromised patients. Fundamental to A. fumigatus pathogenesis is hyphal growth. However, the precise mechanisms underlying hypha...
متن کاملThe effects of antifungal agents to conidial and hyphal forms of Aspergillus fumigatus.
Susceptibility testing for Aspergillus fumigatus is usually performed using a fungal conidial suspension. However, assessment of the susceptibility of fungal hyphae may be more relevant in attempting to mimic the fungal status in infected tissues. In the present study of 12 A. fumigatus clinical isolates and 1 ATCC strain, the antifungal susceptibilities of conidial suspensions, suspensions of ...
متن کاملNCE102 homologue in Aspergillus fumigatus is required for normal sporulation, not hyphal growth or pathogenesis.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Nce102 encodes a 173 amino acid transmembrane protein, which acts as a key player in eisosome assembly and plasma membrane organization. Here, we describe the characterization of Nce102 homologue in the human pathogen, Aspergillus fumigatus. Our results demonstrated that AfuNce102 is continuously expressed during fungal growth. In addition, microscopic examination o...
